« 12/02/2015 : Matthew Shipp Trio "To Duke" »
MATTHEW SHIPP TRIO
TO DUKE
...Perhaps the better way to step into the river that is Shipp's music is to listen to him playing standards. It is a listening approach that works with other artists, like Thelonious Monk playing "Just A Gigolo" or Anthony Braxton's Charlie Parker Project. Shipp's tribute to the music of Duke Ellington is a fine introduction to the pianist's vocabulary….
...What you can gather here is that Shipp is a connoisseur of melody. The trio suggests that if you want to listen to Duke, then buy Ellington records. But if you want to magnify the experience, then try some new music.
Marc Corroto - All About Jazz - ✸✸✸✸✸
...So, at the end of the day, after five listens, I must say this one is a kind of masterpiece. It's one of my favorite Shipp Trio albums. You need a little time to grow into it, or I did (always do) and then it stays with you after the music stops. It's that kind of experience. If you don't know Maestro Shipp's way, and there may be some out there who don't, this is a great place to start. It's a great place to BE, regardless. Get it!
Grego Applegate Edwards - GappleGate Music Review
...Truth be told, there’s a subversive current that runs throughout all of To Duke that rebels a bit against the elegance of these Duke Ellington strains, but that elegance always wins out. Still, the battles between two these sides cleverly set up by the Matthew Shipp Trio is where all of the allure and artistry of To Duke lie.

« 07/11/2014 : David Wessel »
1942 – October 13th 2014
David Wessel was an outstanding musician. He clearly raised electronic music to a different level. David Wessel was very familiar with jazz as he was with other music. He was one of the rare contemporary electronic musicians able to challenge the greatest jazz improviser. The release on «ROGUEART» of its duo with Roscoe Mitchell CONTACT was for us an unforgettable moment.
I had the opportunity to meet with David several times; it has always been great times. The man was as great as his music: full of life.
We will miss him; we will all miss his music.
November 20th 2014 live concert at IRCAM will be dedicated to David Wessel
« 12/08/2014 : Jean-Jacques Avenel »

« 14/12/2009 : What is Jazz? Spanish police knows! »
Monday December 7th 2009, Siguenza Jazz Festival, Spain; LARRY OCHS SAX & DRUMMING CORE European tour last gig: a spectator called the police because he considered the music was not "jazz"; incredibly, the complaint was duly registered and will be passed on to a judge!
William Parker's statement immediately comes in mind: "How dare we spend so much valuable energy answering such questions as "What is Jazz"".
Whatever the label we put on the music, we are very pleased and proud to have released recently the latest and great LARRY OCHS SAX & DRUMMING CORE's album STONE SHIFT
