« 07/11/2014 : David Wessel »

DAVID WESSEL
1942 – October 13th 2014

David Wessel was an outstanding musician. He clearly raised electronic music to a different level. David Wessel was very familiar with jazz as he was with other music. He was one of the rare contemporary electronic musicians able to challenge the greatest jazz improviser. The release on «ROGUEART» of its duo with Roscoe Mitchell CONTACT was for us an unforgettable moment.

I had the opportunity to meet with David several times; it has always been great times. The man was as great as his music: full of life.
We will miss him; we will all miss his music.

November 20th 2014 live concert at IRCAM will be dedicated to David Wessel

« 12/08/2014 : Jean-Jacques Avenel »

JEAN-JACQUES AVENEL

ROY CAMPBELL Jr.
Los Angeles September 29th 1952 – New York, January 9th 2014

“When sound has feet, legs, lungs and wings, it is called music.
If music became a human being, that person would be called Roy Campbell Jr.”.
It is what William Parker wrote in the introduction to Roy interview in William's book CONVERSATION

Roy was a great musician and a great person.
I will miss his big hugs every time we met. We will all miss his music.

YUSEF LATEEF
Passed away on Monday December 23rd 2013 at 93

A very sad news.
It is definitely not possible to summarize in few words what Yusef Lateef brought to the music. He was a giant, musically even more than physically. His amazingly long carrier, more than 70 years, always at the top, allowed him to meet all his peers and to be an active actor of the evolution of jazz (although he rejected this word to name his music).
«ROGUEART» is very proud to have released the astonishing ROOTS RUN DEEP, where his simple and profound words meet his unique sound.

His music and his wisdom will always be with us.

« 14/12/2009 : What is Jazz? Spanish police knows! »

Monday December 7th 2009, Siguenza Jazz Festival, Spain; LARRY OCHS SAX & DRUMMING CORE European tour last gig: a spectator called the police because he considered the music was not "jazz"; incredibly, the complaint was duly registered and will be passed on to a judge!
William Parker's statement immediately comes in mind: "How dare we spend so much valuable energy answering such questions as "What is Jazz"".
Whatever the label we put on the music, we are very pleased and proud to have released recently the latest and great LARRY OCHS SAX & DRUMMING CORE's album STONE SHIFT
