« 23/01/2010 : HAMID DRAKE & BINDU REGGAEOLOGY ON TOUR »

HAMID DRAKE & BINDU   REGGAEOLOGY
European tour, January/February 2010
January 29th, France: Cachan (near Paris) Festvival Sons d'Hiver, Théatre de Cachan,
January 31st, Italy: Milano, Theatro Manzoni, aperitivo in concerto
February 1st, Italy: Padova, Centro d'Arte, Cinema Lux
February 5th, Italy: Padova, Teatro Villa Dei Leoni, Mira-Padova
February 6th, Switzeland: Chiasso, Chiasso Jazz Festival, Spazio Officina
Following the stream of time and the dances of Kâli, the successive incarnations of Bindu, more a crew, sailing, outward bound, an elective community of musicians, than a defined group of people, divulge the logbook of navigation by Hamid Drake. A logbook of boarding sounds, which is not written but delimits and unlimits the narrative space where the drummer and percussionist freely circulate...
...The third Bindu, dedicated to a rapprochement between “jazz” and “reggae” – neither a recording of “jazz” nor a recording of “reggae”, but a recording from the “Great Tradition” – continues to create open environments...
...Whatever he does, the creative musician states the collective value, the variable mutant of play. Euphoria. At the second hearing, if all goes well, if he got across Kâli’s heart, if he or she does not hide no more, the listener should have grown younger by two or three sources of happiness.
Excerpt from the liner notes, written by Alexandre Pierrepont
The album REGGAEOLOGY by HAMID DRAKE & BINDU will be available on January 27th 2010

Nicole Mitchell: Renegades, Anaya, Collective Creativity

by Jeff Stockton in All About Jazz

To call Nicole Mitchell the preeminent jazz flutist working in jazz today would be too limiting. Amid the remarkably fertile Chicago scene, she has distinguished herself as a top instrumentalist, composer, leader and musical ambassador, as well as serving as the president of Chicago's Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM).

« 14/12/2009 : What is Jazz? Spanish police knows! »

Monday December 7th 2009, Siguenza Jazz Festival, Spain; LARRY OCHS SAX & DRUMMING CORE European tour last gig: a spectator called the police because he considered the music was not "jazz"; incredibly, the complaint was duly registered and will be passed on to a judge!
William Parker's statement immediately comes in mind: "How dare we spend so much valuable energy answering such questions as "What is Jazz"".
Whatever the label we put on the music, we are very pleased and proud to have released recently the latest and great LARRY OCHS SAX & DRUMMING CORE's album STONE SHIFT
